[YLE NEWS: VIDEO "UNIQUE EXHIBITION SHEDS LIGHT ON THE GOLDEN AGE OF HIP-HOP."

The Exhibition

This show began as over sized photographs of early 1990's hip hop artists which were placed on building facades in New York City. The photos were then peeled away to display for an alternative cultural experience in Finland.

Work with Uncategorized began with spatial design through 3D modeling the museum. By using available partitions and resources within the museum, I designed various schemes as concept choices that looked at making spaces within the space.

Research of the subjects in the photographs and their musical group associations also proved to be critical. I was thus able to challenge ideas on scale, mounting techniques, temporary construction, and part to whole relationships of the photographs.

History of Hip-Hop Timeline

A key element throughout the design process remained the background research of the time period, now considered the defining years of hip hop.

Press & Operations

Other design elements include interior renderings, exterior banners, city signage, city flags, invitations, and all gift shop products (postcards, apparel, posters, etc).

While in Finland, I coordinated the launch of the exhibition, namely art placement, caption designs and translations, as well as media coordination with Finnish news sources.
